FOOTBALL 1st Xl report
Wednesday was our first game of the season and WOW what a start it was!
The team remains mostly unchanged from last year but with the inclusion of four very handy year 11’s joining the team. You never know how a game is going to play out especially the first one for the year but yesterday the team turned up to play and play they did!
The weather gods played their part with the sunshining brightly to welcome Trinity Catholic College to Balclutha. We started with a hiss and a roar with Ben Judson finding the back of the net in the first 5min of the game. Things settled and the SOHS boys played a strong game keeping the ball in our attacking half. Nathan Bocock and Wade Lumb, with our goal of the match, scored finding us 3 – 0 up at half time something we aren’t use to. The boys held their composure at halftime knowing they still had 30min to go. Trinity pushed a little harder in the second half but the SOHS boys held them back with some great saves in goal for Hayden Wendelgelst. With some great determination and fantastic play, the ball found its way to the back of the net for Ulysses Cu, Marcello Marcos (our Toko import) and Isaac McCarthy making the game 6 – 0 at the final whistle.
Our player of the day went to Isaac. Isaac worked hard in the mid field chasing down any loose ball and going after and winning back any lost ball. All of his hard work paid off when he found the back of the net in the second half.
Thank you to Ollie for refereeing the game and to all the supporters for coming along to cheer our boys on.
FOOTBALL 2nd Xl report
A wonderful afternoon playing on a newly marked out football pitch next to the 1st made for a great atmosphere. The team had a great 6 - 2 win with some fabulous passing football, some great goals and many more chances created but not taken!
Player of the day was Santiago Rattin for his performance in defence against a quality striker.
The next home games are on the 29th of May against Kings 3rd Xl, 4pm at the Balclutha football grounds. We would love to see a few more people join the support crew.
