During the first weekend of the April school holidays, 6 students attended the SADD conference held at John McGlashan College in Dunedin.
This was an amazing chance for our students to connect with students from other schools and discuss the SADD objectives.
“These three-day events bring together hundreds of passionate teens from around the country who are committed to changing attitudes and behaviours and making our roads safer.”
Here’s what the students had to say:
Hayley said “The time at the SADD Conference was really fun. We learned new things about road safety and even made new friends. Everyone was nice and friendly, and it was easy to fit in and make friends that you never knew existed. I’m very glad I went on that trip. The staff there was really friendly and helped explain what SADD actually is and how they work. I definitely think more young people should get involved with SADD, you can learn so much as well as having fun. I remember when I showed up and I was terrified but then I met these kind, funny people and I felt not as terrified. We need to get more involved with the SADD community and it is an easy way to join. I made so many friends and memories. I would highly recommend going.”
Hanre said “The conference was a really good experience and it provided us with a lot of information about what SADD is really about. It also gave us the opportunity to meet new people from all over New Zealand. We did a lot of activities in groups of people that aren’t from the same area, so we were able to get to know them and make more friends. Overall, it was just a really fun conference, and it showed us how we can make our roads safer and spread the word about SADD in a fun positive way.”
Kailee said “This conference was able to connect me with likeminded people who care about the safety of our roads. It was a wonderful experience with some amazing people. All of the activities were engaging and informative. It was serious but at the same time they made it fun and interesting. I really enjoyed my time there and am so glad that I went. I definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to learn more about SADD. The food was also so amazing which was definitely a bonus.”
