From the English Departmen Week 7

Book Day on Tuesday was a great success! It was wonderful to see so many students dressed up and enjoying the world of books.

We had a scavenger hunt around the school of famous quotes from famous books, challenging students to match quotes to titles and authors.

I had a number of emails from students making guesses, feeling inspired to read and enjoying the word of the week. This week's word was cognizant; to have knowledge or awareness. Which fits perfectly with the goal of building vocabulary to improve literacy.

As the holidays approach I encourage everyone to get to the library and find something to read over the break.

What we're reading: I have just finished Atlas: The Story of Pa Salt by Lucinda Riley which is the final book in the Seven Sisters series. I thoroughly enjoyed this and it tied all the stories together well. I can't wait for them to become a film series. I read the first book as a physical book at the start of 2018 but didn't really get into it. A few years later when friends were talking about how much they loved the books I thought I would give them another go and downloaded an audiobook version. I enjoyed it so much more as an audiobook because it swaps between time periods and narrators, which I found so much easier to follow as I listened. I absolutely encourage listening to audiobooks if reading a physical book is a challenge!
