The SOHS Panthers travelled to Dunedin to compete in the annual Special Olympics Football tournament and defend their 2023 title.
Special Olympics - Football Term 2 July 2024
Team Members - Aidan Serong, Eve McNee, Laura Warren, Jamon Chapman, Ryan Scobie, Saryn Semmens.
Once arriving, we found we were in Division One. Our first game was close, with SOHS losing by 1 goal to Sara Cohen School. The second game was even, with Aidan scoring two goals and coming away with a draw against Bayfield HSl. Our third game was a friendly match with all the players on the pitch, and we joined Sara Cohen against two other schools. Many laughs and fun were had as staff joined the students to show off their football skills.
For the final game against Sara Cohen, we were up 2-0 by halftime, but in the second half, it was 3-2. Then, in the final moment, SOHS scored another goal by Eve, leading us to a 4-2 win in the final.
We all really enjoyed our day away in Dunedin, working as a team, meeting new people, and supporting each other and other schools. Special thanks to Becs and Lynette, as well as Mrs Semmens, who turned up with chocolate to support.
