Year 13 Leaders- one per mentor group
-Help to promote school and house spirit.
-Assist Mentor teachers with responsibilities within Mentor time e.g. reading the daily notices.
-Take a leading role in supporting events such as Athletics day e.g. house chants.
-Are a positive role model for other students eg encouraging involvement in activities
-Communicate information that has been shared back to Mentor groups eg wellbeing
-Support the work of staff organising house group events e.g. inter house sports.
-Take a leadership role offering their ideas and student voice to develop our school culture.
Students are given a house group on enrolment at South Otago High School and generally keep this same house throughout their time at the school. Family members generally stay in the same house. The house group structure helps develop a sense of belonging at the school. The peer support programme supports this through the older Year 13 students supporting the Year 9 students as they transition to high school. Positive relationships are built, teamwork is encouraged and leadership skills are developed.
